Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT)

The Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) test measures the level of GGT, an enzyme found primarily in the liver. GGT plays a role in the metabolism of glutathione and the transfer of amino acids across cell membranes. This test is commonly used to evaluate liver function and diagnose liver diseases, as well as to assess the impact of alcohol consumption on liver health.

About the Test
  • Gamma Glutamyl Transferase (GGT)

The GGT test evaluates liver health and helps diagnose conditions related to liver dysfunction. Elevated levels of GGT can indicate liver diseases, bile duct obstructions, or alcohol-related liver damage. Symptoms of liver issues might include jaundice, abdominal pain, and fatigue. The test is also useful for assessing the effectiveness of treatments for liver conditions and monitoring liver function in individuals with chronic liver disease.
